meet laran

Hey there, friend. I am honored that you have stopped by for a visit. My name is Laran and I enjoy putting things together and creating spirited "small batch" pieces of jewelry. My family and I live Shawnee, Kansas just a little west of Kansas City. We eat a lot. We travel a lot. We love a good adventure and hockey. Lots and lots of hockey.

Boho Rococo Jewelry started at our dining room table while living in Austin, Texas in the spring of 2012. I pursued an urge to "make" following the news of a scary diagnosis and treatment plan for our young son. I unpacked some tools, bought a bunch of beads and got to work. With a degree in Art Therapy, I knew that I needed a creative outlet to relieve my angst during the many days of unfamiliarity that we had ahead. Beads, jaunts around Town Lake and Bota Box were my go-to's for self care. Today, our boy is well, thriving and bossy. Yet my maker's hankering still persists.

I believe each of us are able to facilitate creativity in specific and unique ways. Inspiration comes in many forms and if an idea persistently visits us, it is our responsibility to give it form and to bring it to life. Fears and frustrations can come with chasing an idea, as can fulfillment and joy when it is birthed. In her book Big Magic, Liz Gilbert writes,

"One of the oldest and most generous tricks that the universe plays on human beings is to bury strange jewels within us all, and then stand back to see if we can ever find them."

My journey with Boho Rococo Jewelry has been a slow moving and sweet one. It took me a long time to get into action and turn my ideas into actual work. I then had to cultivate the bravery to share it and figure out how to make it all work.

I have learned however, that NOT living creatively and leaning in to the things I am inspired by causes more discomfort and disappointment than actually just mustering up the focus and courage to pursue them.

I hope you enjoy the pieces I have shared with you here. And I hope that if you have any ideas that are nagging at you to be created, that you listen and make them come to life. Thank you, I am so honored that you have stopped by.

Xo,

Laran
